SYNOPSIS

Oliver! is based on the Charles Dickens novel of the same name and tells the story of young orphan Oliver Twist - a boy who dreams of a loving family. When Oliver dares to ask for more food, he's banished from the workhouse where he was raised and sold to unpleasant undertaker Mr Sowerberry.

A chance encounter with the Artful Dodger on the street leads Oliver to Fagin, leader of a band of child pickpockets. Fagin welcomes Oliver with open arms and the young orphan begins to settle into his new life as one of Fagin's gang.

When Oliver is accused of theft, everything changes. He's rescued by the kind and wealthy Mr Brownlow, who introduces him to a world beyond the streets. But Fagin's ruthless partner Bill Sykes has other plans for Oliver and takes steps to make the boy return to the London underworld. Nancy, hopelessly in love with Bill but desperate to help Oliver, finds herself caught in the middle and pays the ultimate price.
